This crosslinguistic study examines co-evolving academic rhetoric in English, German, Danish and Bulgarian economics journals published between 1900 and 2000. Whilst most developmental aspects across languages appear to be similar, though not always simultaneously, there are some differences: most languages increasingly avoid first-person pronouns, but the British sample shows an opposite trend; the emphasis of introductions and conclusions has evolved more towards research there too.
