Annotation

This study illustrates and compares the pragmatic differences of the Chinese legal language employed in the Chinese speaking jurisdictions of China and Taiwan. It indicates a universalism in legal texts' illocutionary functions and the inclination to employ performatives and fossilized words in legal texts.
