Annotation

This study employs Billig's cognitive dissonance model in order to comprehend a specific set of discursive strategies used in a discussion on police reform in Northern Ireland by nationalist/republican participants, traditionally opposing the police. The study illuminates dissonance's particular social and cultural nature and its management, and also language use's ‘repressive’ function.
