This essay takes a wide view of the issue of ‘truthfulness’, as both a cover term for the entire semantic field, and also pointing to specific terminological uses. The introduction to issues and engagements in the field comprises: a macro-field view; a view of the engagements with truthfulness in pragmatics; precursors and neighbors on the issues; some more recent developments in pragmatics. The essay then explores types of truthfulness and non-truthfulness. Then the issues of thruthfulness and language - physiological non- thruthfulness and non-deceptively intent non- thruthfulness are addressed. Further are dealt with: thruthfulness and talk, thruthfulness and cooperation, intentionally deceptive non-thruthfulness and moral issues.
