Annotation

The philosophy of language that Humboldt developed between 1795 and 1836 laid the foundations for a ‘pragmatic’ theory of language, in which the notion of the ‘act of speech’ is central. This essay futher discusses language and thought; language and world; language and languages; language, culture & creativity; language, dialogue and pronouns; and Humboldt and the Idéologues.
