This study deals with some often overlooked dimensions of Dell Hymes' work on ethnography and democracy. It first sketches the ethnographic work's critical and counterhegemonic paradigmatic dimension and then discusses Hyme's voice, democracy, and inequality concern in his ethnopoetic work.
