Drawing on the theories of Althusser, Vološinov and Bakhtin, this article explores the function of rhetorical questions with an aggressive and polemical content, in the political editorial discourse of the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi Arabic-language daily newspaper. Readers are clearly called upon to choose between the “hegemonic” American policy and the newspaper's “emancipationist” position.
