This study examines how gender, secondary school instructional language, and age affect the overall reported use of Russian in Azerbaijan. It then proposes a four-dimensional model for language choice in Azerbaijan, comprising interacting socioeconomic, cultural, and prestige/formality factors. It also shows that women's language preference shifts over time from Russian to Azerbaijani.
