This study compares the diverging language choices and code-switching features of young and aged informants of the Chinese community of Tangkak, Johor, in Peninsular Malaysia. Whilst older informants prefer their Hokkien dialect, younger informants prefer Mandarin, and older informants' rare code-switching discourse involves Hokkien and Mandarin, while the mixed discourse of younger informants involves Mandarin, Malay, and/or English.
