Annotation

This study explores changes over time in adult migrants' first language proficiency, as emigration may invoke first language attrition and subsequent revival in old age. It examines simplistic and complex predictions, taking into account linear first and second language development and psycholinguistic elements of activation, inhibition, and cognitive ageing. The predictions are tested in a large-scale quantitative study on language competence among German and Dutch migrants in the Netherlands and Canada.
