This study demonstrates how the taken-for-granted academic discourse institutional conventions at an Australian university, may contribute to silencing or marginalizing Chinese and Vietnamese international students' possibilities for alternative approaches to knowledge and intercultural communication, for instance by producing their own English as a second language texts.
