This comprehensive and longitudinal study of bilingual Inuktitut-English/French education in the aboriginal context of a remote Arctic community, reveals that grade 3 baseline heritage language competence predicts later heritage and mainstream language achievement, thus offering evidence for cross-language transfer and emphasizing the significance of heritage language education for aboriginal students
