This study examines in detail two common Chinese Malaysian folk concepts associated with dissatisfaction expression, namely thou soo and aih auan, and their implications for cultural knowledge and overall community-connected communication. 'Thou soo' constitutes a solution-focused speech act, 'aih auan' a lamentation about irreversible situations, beyond speaker control.
