This study proposes a coherent theoretical framework for critical discourse analysis (CDA) and metaphor, adopting conceptual blending over conceptual metaphor theory, when the latter seems incompatible with CDA. This framework is then used in a CDA of metaphors for nation and immigration figuring in the 2005 general election manifesto of the British National Party.
