This study highlights some topics of the U.S. 2008 election campaign (face-to-face political race and gender discussions, lifestyle political campaigning, YouTube, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Saturday Night Live) and isolates specific theories from five communication subfields (persuasion, strategic communication, interpersonal communication, communication information technology and media impact), to show their utility to political communication scholarship.
