Annotation

J. first explores the relationship between the concepts of 'analytic' and 'synthetic' and particular ways of specifying teaching content. Then, starting from the assumption that any methodology (analytic or synthetic) must base itself on a view of what is entailed in the ability to use a language, he looks at some of the processes involved in fluent conversational interaction and draws conclusions relevant to the teaching and testing of spoken language.
