This paper discusses three key dimensions of media coverage of contemporary war: war news arenas; the major script for protagonist positioning; and the level of correspondence between media and official coverage preferences. The case study of the Israel-Hamas Gaza strip fighting in 2008/2009 illustrates the interplay and multifaceted links between these dimensions.
