This study argues that the bona fide Ibadan indigenes use their civic nationalism and municipal consciousness as politicization strategies, whilst the city's non-indigenes consider themselves as politically disadvantaged. This practice which endangers equal democratic participation results in poor performance of the political elites in this Nigerian Yoruba community.
