Annotation

Multiple readability tests and a systemic functional grammar analysis of cohesion and lexical density of one article from three South African newspapers, -the Daily Sun, The Herald and Business Day-, reveal that all three newspapers adapt their language in order to match their target public, which suggests that many South Africans are now better informed for participation in democracy, although newspapers could make more efforts to help readers acquire a variety of literacy practices.
