This paper argues that Hague's mid-1990s 'cosmo-multiculturalist' thesis as class critique of Australian multiculturalism policy under the labor Hawke-Keating governments (1983-1996), (yet) abnegating the mixed governmental rationales underlying local south-west Sydney's multicultural suburb planning and the active participation of migrant associations, currently only holds limited value as explanatory mechanism and policy intervention issue.
