Annotation

This article uses data from the Bel languages to reconstruct the history of certain grammatical features of Takia (an Oceanic Austronesian language, belonging to the Western subgroup of the small Bel family), especially clause chaining and postverbal enclitics, through inferencing. Metatypy was apparently an ongoing process during the development of the Bel languages.
