Annotation

Recent studies in linguistic pragmatics, intercultural communication and cognitive psychology, have raised questions that justify some review of the main tenets of current pragmatic theories which emphasize the significance of intention, common ground, mutual knowledge, relevance, commitment and cooperation in communicative act performance. Cognitive psychologists e.g. have shown that interlocutors' egocentric gages are more determining during the initial stages of production and comprehension than currently presumed.
