This paper discusses how the Australian advice given to immigrant parents to speak English only with their children, as reflected in the Spanish-speaking community, depends on several social variables such as the adviser's ethnic identity, the reveicer's 'Caucasian' look and the time of advice as related to goverment immigrant policy.
