Annotation

This paper investigates English phonemic awareness and phonic skills in four different groups of kindergarten pupils: 20 high- and 20 low-reading-level English monolinguals, and 20 high- and 20 low-reading-level English-Spanish bilinguals. It demonstrates that even at kindergarten level, there is a reading achievement gap between monolingual and bilingual pupils.
