This paper discusses how Australian radio journalism has flinched for the talkback host or entertainer just at the moment when the talkback format's political impact has become most distinct, and the regulatory control of that impact least efficient. This lead to a kind of entertainment that imitates journalistic forms and practices but wields rather different social and political functions.
