This paper sets out to clarify the interdependence between humour and the Gricean Cooperative Principle (CP) in order to prove the misapprehension of authors who consider humour as an independent communicative manner and as an intrinsic infraction of maxims and the CP. It is argued that the Gricean cooperative rationality model does enable humorous verbalisations, which ordinarily depend on maxim flouts.
