Drawing on articles from the British rightwing quality weekly 'the Spectator' in the wake of the London July 2005 bombings, raising panicky questions on misguided British ideological priorities, this study explores pragmatic and rhetorical devices employed to sketch an image of British society as mixed up in a discursive struggle whilst negotiating its modern identity which balances between multiculturalist and nationalist ideals.
