This study focuses on the (ir)relevance of employing Austin's categorisation into locution, illocution, and perlocution in assessing a scission between pragmatics and semantics, and in particular on the difference between the locutionary and illocutionary act and its consequences for the definition of linguistic pragmatics and its detachment from semantic theory.
