This book establishes cognitive (socio)linguistics as a research paradigm within the domain of world Englishes, capable of overcoming some inherent restrictions of traditional perspectives on cultural variation in language. A case study of the linguistic construction of the cultural model of community in African English is presented as an exemplar for the exploration of cultural models in other English varieties.
