Annotation

This book argues that gossip can be employed as an interpretive tool to better comprehend early Christian identity and theology. Insights from the multidisciplinary domain of gossip research help to understand the role of gossip in relation to power and authority distribution. A presentation of different texts in Greek, Hebrew and Latin demonstrates the complex relation between gossip and gender. The Pastoral Epistles use terminology from the stereotype of gossip as rhetorical devices in order to subvert the opponents' masculinity and prestige.
