This paper discusses how minority literatures are forced to negotiate readership encounter in significant markets in the 'majority' language of the other. The presented case study explores the particular challenges of Maltese literature within the context of tensions between identity and otherness, peripherality and ‘majority’, authenticity and hybridity and insularity and openness.
