Drawing on interactional sociolinguistics, this paper explores a cartoon of a son-father dialogue to reveal the implicit meanings derived from contextual information. Though the situational context itself may define verbal and nonverbal interlocutor choices, the interlocutors can also (re)create the context to perform their communicative intentions.
