This paper discusses how by the 1920s and 1930s, thousands of Americans turned to correspondence education -the distance learning type of that era-, and in particular to Sherwin Cody's 100% Self-correcting English Course, to learn/better master the art of English speaking and writing, as college and high school education were far from universal.
