Annotation

This study on the pragmatic functions of diminutives in colloquial Jordanian Arabic (CJA), reveals that these diminutives are deployed both as a positive politeness strategy, aimed at expressing affection and furnishing a friendly context for social interaction, and as a negative politeness strategy oriented towards minimizing infliction and mitigating negative statements.
