Annotation

Drawing on relevance and politeness theory, this study explores the textual and interactional (pragmatic) uses of the Chinese discourse markers 'qishi' (‘actually’) and 'shishishang' (‘in fact’) in both formal and informal speech settings, whilst also addressing intersubjective components.
