This study argues that the complaint letters of Bruneian English speakers to the then only English medium newspaper in Brunei Darussalam, the Borneo Bulletin, have significantly changed over a 17-year period from 1988 to 2005, from wholesale straight and aggressive to direct yet diplomatic and civil.
