Annotation

This study examines how pragmatic force modifiers (PMF's) are used to accomplish multiple functions (i.e. textual, interpersonal and ideational) in the British Academic Spoken English (BASE) lecture corpus. The study both displays genre-defined functions and multifunctionality of PFMs in academic lectures, so there is no irrevocable correlation between forms and functions.
