This study examines an interactional pattern that underlies regularities in shared and non-reciprocated laughter. It unveils that shared laughter is often linked to topic termination. There is, however, no simple stimulus-response relationship between humour and laughter, and the (non-)appearance of laughter at a proper juncture may result from an orientation towards interactional considerations.
