Annotation

This study explores the interaction between inverse voice and information structure in Teribe, a Chibchan language of Panama and Costa Rica. It is argued that the discursive appearance of inverse voice may be explained in terms of discourse-oriented preferences regarding the linear order and does not demand the supposition that discrete pragmatic properties like topic or focus constitute an inherent part of the addressed construction.
