Annotation

This study explores what factors affect the deployment of exophoric, nominal demonstratives in Spoken Jordanian Arabic, focusing on demonstratives employed to encode perceptible referents. AS demonstrative practice in SJA is context-dependent, the studied demonstratives do not possess a permanent ‘distance’ characteristic fixedly linked to the two particular degrees of proximity or distance as part of their semantic repertoire.
