This paper argues that the shifting and pragmatically modulated discourse objectives in psychotherapeutic talk cannot be downrightly aligned with specific metaphor strategies. It suggests that the prevalent stress on signaling metaphoricity in discourse per se can be succesfully extended to comprise the analysis of “contextualization cues”.
