This analysis adds to the research on the approximative adverbs 'almost' and 'barely' by presenting psycholinguistic proof for the asymmetry of their meaning components. The findings advocate a pragmatic difference in the role of the meaning components, according to Horn's (2002) proposal, regarding how implications of approximative adverbs add to context update.
