This discourse and corpus analytic study reveals that deictic expressions appear more in German than in English texts, as deictis are more prominently present in the German textual cohesion system. Also, in many instances, they proved to function as an (optional) tool for maximizing explicitness, a usual communicative strategy in German yet not in English discourse.
