Annotation

This paper demonstrates that the colonial Nuba Policy meant to construct artificial racial tribal Nuba identities in the Nuba Mountains via language and literacy practices. It then argues that both colonial and postcolonial Sudanese state-oriented language policy has strategically manipulated the traditionary sociolinguistic essentialising language and literacy framing as a warrant for opposing or inflicting nationalist ideologies.
