This study explores one specific and locally controlled deployment of the "Designedly Incomplete Utterances (DIU)"-device in teacher-student interactions in an Italian primary school, whereby the teacher's orientation to the pedagogic aims of the organization of interaction surfaces in interactional characteristics.
