Annotation

This paper proposes a quantitative variationist exploration of the English restrictive relative pronouns, focusing on their social meanings. The results simultaneously show the persistent nature of social meaning and the prolonged impact of grammatical ideology, both of which affect pronoun choice in face-to-face interactional settings.
