This study explores (dis)similarities in the usage of the discourse particle 'well' between two datasets, -a corpus of expert English user speech in Hong Kong and textbooks designed for advanced English learners in Hong Kong-, in terms of its discourse function, its manifestation frequency, and its positional predilection.
