This analysis of anti-occupation humor in two comprehensive sets of Danish scrapbooks composed during German occupation (1940–1945), reveals that humor can be employed both to increase critical political consciousness, essential for protest and opposition, and to add to escapism and resignation, as a substitute for conflict.
