This study argues that in English subtitles of Spanish films, negative stereotypes about Spanish impoliteness can be aggravated, due to the lack of mitigation of face-threatening acts in Peninsular Spanish (as opposed to English) and as subtitles often eliminate crucial pragmatic charachteristics of politeness.
