This study explores what linguistic mitigation devices Jordanian undergraduate students of English lack in their L2 and what factors affect their pragmatic request behavior. Language proficiency, L1 pragmatic knowledge, and L1 cultural norms transfer appear three influencing factors in Jordanian students' L2 English requests.
